Size+Matter London design Festival Paper Tower by Shigeru Ban

Images ©Sylvain Deleu
Japanese architect and designer Shigeru Ban working with cardboard manufacturer Sonoco will create a 22m high cone shaped structure out of compressed cardboard tubing.
Cardboard can have structural strength and this installation shows what can be achieved. It will be possible to stand inside and look out through the structure as the tubes narrow to a single cone. The installation is part of the Size & Matter project.

Made new images of exhibition at Slade School of Art UCL london Uk with Mady Boyd & Beau Lotto (Neuroscientist & Artist) .

The Brain Unravelled is a multi-disciplinary exhibition where art, anthropology and neuroscience join forces for the first time. In addition to the exhibition which will feature painting, photography, mixed media, installation, sculpture, and film, there will be a series of talks and events during the show between 7th – 19th September 2009. The exhibition is taking place at The Slade Research Centre in Woburn Square, London.
The human brain is the most complex object in the known universe. It contains about 100 billion nerve cells, and 100 trillion connections among them. Every day thousands of scientists around the world are trying to understand more about how the brain works. What is incredible is that after so many years of research what we DON’T know about the brain is still greater than what we do!!
This exhibition will explore some of the brain research that goes on and that the public knows little about. One of the strong themes of the show is Consciousness. For some considered the holy grail of science to others a myth or something we humans will never be able to grasp…
Amongst the people contributing you will find Antony Gormley, Storm Thorgerson, Future Sound of London, Liliane Lijn, Beau Lotto, Chris Knight, Brian Butterworth, Chris Frith and so many more. Please check contributors for the full list.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2009

Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA
12 July – 18 October

The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2009 has been designed by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of leading Japanese architecture practice SANAA. It is sponsored by NetJets Europe.
Describing their structure the architects say: ‘The Pavilion is floating aluminium, drifting freely between the trees like smoke. The reflective canopy undulates across the site, expanding the park and sky. Its appearance changes according to the weather, allowing it to melt into the surroundings. It works as a field of activity with no walls, allowing uninterrupted view across the park and encouraging access from all sides. It is a sheltered extension of the park where people can read, relax and enjoy lovely summer days.’

Based on a concept by 3rd year AA student Danecia Sibingo and a team including Lyn Hayek, Yoojin Kim, and Taeyoung Lee, the Pavilion is neither art nor architecture, science nor ecological adventure, but a sculptural installation which embraces invention, experimentation, new materials and aesthetic intelligence.

Serpentine Gallery , New Exhibition LUKE FOWLER

www.serpentinegallery.org
A central figure in Glasgow’s vibrant art scene, Luke Fowler creates cinematic collages that break down conventional approaches to biographical and documentary film-making.
Fowler’s films have often been linked to British Free Cinema of the 1950s, whose distinctive aesthetic came out of a conscious decision to engage with the reality of British society. Fowler uses similarly impressionistic sound and editing, and avoids didactic voice-over commentaries and narrative continuity. However, the artist moves beyond simply referencing the work of his predecessors. He intuitively applies the logic, aesthetics and politics of his subjects to the films he constructs about them.
The results are atmospheric, sampled histories that reverberate with the vitality of the people he studies.
